I’m a New Zealand based business traveller who travels regularly to the USA, UK and Singapore. My roaming call charges were huge and even though my company pays I felt taken advantage off by the big Telcos. Being contactable on the same mobile number is absolutely necessary for my job. And now with MobiRoam I can travel and keep my number, saving the company thousands of dollars a year.
This is how I use MobiRoam.
I keep in my wallet SIMs from the USA, UK and Singapore. I also have a second New Zealand SIM. Just before leaving for a trip I unload my everyday NZ Sim from my smartphone and load it into my SmartBox. I then load my alternate NZ SIM card into my smartphone to get a 3G internet connection. On the way to the airport I check emails, make last minute calls and text. Just before landing I load the SIM card of my destination country into my smartphone. So when I land my smartphone is connected to the internet and with the MobiRoam app I maintain my normal mobile number.
I’m looking forward to when a company offers a low cost Global data SIM so I can use only one international SIM wherever I travel but I guess that will be coming soon.
